The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced an update on the International Entrepreneur Parole program. The update provides clarity regarding the future of the program, which has recently been under debate.
What is the International Entrepreneur Parole Program?
International Entrepreneur Parole (IER) is a period of authorized stay to foreign entrepreneurs who demonstrate that their stay in the U.S. provides a significant public benefit through their business. Those granted IER are only eligible to work for their start-up business. IER parole can be granted for up to three entrepreneurs per start-up, along with their families.
What did U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) decide about this program?
USCIS announced on May 10, 2021, that it is planning to continue the program and is withdrawing a 2018 notice of proposed rulemaking that was trying to remove the program. USCIS decided to keep this program because it believes that the program will help strengthen and grow the nation’s economy through increased capital spending, innovation, and job creation.
