U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) stated that it has received enough H-2B petitions to meet the congressional cap for the first six months of fiscal year 2027. Because September 4, 2026, was the filing deadline, USCIS will reject any petition submitted after that date that requests a start date before April 1, 2027.

The H-2B program allows employers to hire foreign workers for temporary, non-agricultural jobs and limits the number of visas issued each fiscal year to 66,000. The program allocates 33,000 visas for employment beginning October 1 and another 33,000 for employment beginning April 1. The 33,000 visas allocated for the first half of the fiscal year have now been used.
