The U.S. government’s immigration crackdown triggered a sudden slowdown in the nation’s population growth. According to Axios and the U.S. Census Bureau, immigration enforcement made population growth drop forty-five percent during 2025. This marks the largest decline in U.S. population growth in the past decade. Ignoring the economic consequences of said policies is increasingly difficult.
Despite claims that restricting immigration would benefit American workers, the evidence points in the opposite direction. Fewer immigrants mean a smaller U.S. workforce overall, and the jobs once held by noncitizens are not flowing to U.S. born workers. as promised. Instead, employers hire less workers domestically and shift positions overseas, moving jobs, payroll, and tax revenue out of the American economy altogether. Rather than protecting U.S. workers, the crackdown shrinks the labor force and tax base sustaining it.
