U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) lets citizens and green card holders petition for certain family members to enter the United States and become a lawful permanent resident. For spouses of petitioners, the required annual income for a green card is $27,050. This assumes the sponsoring citizen or green card holder isn’t on active military duty and only sponsoring one relative. More sponsorships require a higher minimum wage requirement.

  • The sponsor themselves.
  • The green card applicant.

Sponsors can include income from people outside the household only if the combined annual income of all household members doesn’t meet the required minimum wage.
