Four regional representatives of the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) are now appointed. The CIS Ombudsman office is a confidential, independent, and impartial connection between the public and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Congress established the organization by law in 2002. Per that law, a local presence is outlined to better identify issues.

The four regional representatives are located in Los Angeles (Western region), Dallas (Central region), Boston (Northeast region), and Orlando (Southeast region). These locations support USCIS’ regional operations and service center structure.

In their role, these representatives are tasked with:

  • Working with local immigration stakeholders, gathering information as to their interaction and experience with USCIS.
  • Identifying issues that may be unique to specific regional U.S. areas or USCIS offices.
  • Communicating feedback from each region to CIS Ombudsman headquarters, providing USCIS recommendations as to processes or policies.
  • Providing an overview of the CIS Ombudsman office services, clarifying the process the office uses with working with the public.

The headquarters office continues to work with individuals through the country, focused on foreign embassies and consulates, national and international organizations and employers, and headquarter-level of other federal agencies and departments.

Contacting a CIS Ombudsman Regional Representative

Regional representatives can be contacted through their Public Engagement page. Employers, legal services providers, schools, educational institutions, community-based organizations, state and local governments, and others are welcome to contact their regional office. The regional representatives do not offer case assistance services. To request individual case support from the CIS Ombudsman, individuals can submit a request on the Assistance Request page.
