The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) extended its entry ban for countries in Africa affected by the ongoing Ebola outbreak. This follows the new foreign quarantine rule established in May 2026. The new deadline for the ban is July 21, 2026
Background
CDC officials published a final rule establishing a framework for entry restrictions in late May. The framework itself doesn’t impose restrictions automatically. It sets up a system CDC can use to implement them when public health circumstances call for it. The rule took effect on May 22, 2026, with a public comment period running through June 26, 2026.
Impact
The entry ban affects the following countries:
- The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
- Uganda.
- South Sudan.
Individuals from these three countries can’t enter the U.S. until the ban expiration date ends.
