The new gold card visa program’s now seeing little, if any, applicants. First released in September 2025, the gold card visa offers a fast-tracked path to permanent residency. The visa requires a one-million-dollar fee and fifteen-thousand-dollar vetting fee. It also offers no waiting times for applicants.

According to the Washington Post, only three hundred and thirty-eight people applied for a gold card since the program began. However, only one hundred and sixty-five people paid the one-million-dollar application fee. Potential applicants usually back down from committing due to judicial challenges to the program or its lack of Congressional approval. Additionally, many prospective applicants are from countries considered “high-risk” by the U.S. government and part of the ongoing visa processing pause for said countries.
