Individuals whose visa applications were denied due to the Trump administration’s travel ban that restricted people from Muslim-majority countries can reapply for their visas. Countries included are Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. These individuals, an estimated 41,000 non-immigrant visa applicants, were originally denied due to the “Muslim Ban.” Fees will not be collected for their reapplication. This group of individuals filed a lawsuit, and this is the resolution of that matter.
Individuals who were denied will be notified via the Consular Electronic Application Center. In addition, the names of qualifying individuals will be sent to two class action lawsuits and be removed from those matters. Allowing for their reapplication satisfies the needs of those legal proceedings. The judge gave a deadline of February 17, 2023, to file its proposed schedule of notifications, requirements, and other details.
The travel ban reapplication offer agreed upon excludes approximately 28,000 individuals who missed work visas and other nonimmigrant visas. An additional 25,000 green card applicants were also excluded.
