To reduce the demands on U.S. consulates in India, the U.S. Embassy in India suggests that Indian nationals travel to specific countries with lower wait times for B1 or B2 visas. Specific countries have expanded the availability of visa appointments for Indian nationals. By applying through a third country, qualifying Indians can complete the interview process for a B1 or B2 visa in as few as 14 days. Other countries’ wait times include Kuwait, 1 day; Singapore, 7 days; Hong Kong, 2 days, and Singapore, 7 days.
After COVID-19 travel restrictions ended, India was one of the few countries that experienced an increase in demand. Wait times in India for a B1 or B2 visa interview appointment are between 589 and 638 days at the time of this writing.
For individuals who are renewing an existing visa, an interview is not required. Dropbox processing is available for renewal and has a lower wait time than first applicants.
