U.S. Consulates in India continue to be closed for regular options as of October 25, 2022. Over 100,000 appointment slots were opened for the H and L visa categories, resulting in the reduction of wait times to nearly half. Interviews began in September for B-1 and B-2 visitor visa applicants.
For those with dropbox appointments, while the U.S. Embassy estimated a three to four-week wait time, things are moving faster for some. If the submission is complete, with no missing documents or information, dropbox processing is seeing an estimated one-week completion. To track the latest on the processing time, visit the U.S. Visa Dropbox Tracker online site.
Visa appointments continue to be extremely limited for U.S. Consulates in India. The goal is to return to typical, pre-COVID, processing capabilities by September 2023.
F-1 student visa appointments have not yet opened as of October 25, 2022. Originally, mid-October was targeted for the first batch of appointments for student visa interviews. These slots will open soon. We continue to monitor these ongoing updates.
As previously noted, the expiry status has been extended to 48 months for U.S. Visa Dropbox criteria. This is updated from the 12-month expiry.
