The U.S. Department of State stated some foreigners who previously were denied H-1B, H-2B, J and L temporary visas are now allowed to reapply for a visa. Certain specialty occupations qualify. The reopening is due to the expiration of a previous ban put in place in June 2020.
The related ban that kept those with qualifying visas from coming to the US was rescinded by President Biden in February 2021. This is the official expiration of the remaining element of that ban.
The State Department stated those seeking a visa who still have technically active applications will have interviews scheduled. The availability of the interview appointment is dependent on the level of operation of each consulate. Due to the ongoing pandemic, each consulate is operating on some level of reduced availability.
The Department also stated some emergency appointments may be available for those who have a need to travel immediately.
For those who do not have an active application, they are welcome to reapply.
