The Trump administration intends to reopen undocumented immigrant family detention center in southern Texas. The facility was closed during the Biden administration, coinciding with the administration ending the practice of detaining undocumented minors. Now the Trump administration is resuming the practice and having a private company manage the undocumented immigrant family detention center.
The decision has been criticized by immigrant advocacy groups, who argue the detention of minors is inhumane. Facilities like the one reopened in southern Texas will provide much needed space to house undocumented migrants. CoreCivic, Inc., the company managing the facility stated they will treat the facility as a family residential center rather than just a mere detention center.
