All foreign nationals in the U.S., with the exception of A and G visa holders and visa waiver visitors are legally required to report an address change within ten days of moving. This will help them receive benefits and correspondence in a timely manner.
Non-citizens can update their address either online through a USCIS account or through mail. Those requesting an address change online are encouraged to submit via the Enterprise Change of Address (E-COA) self-service tool, requesters submitting by mail must fill out a Form AR-11. Certain groups, such as protected persons, will need to follow special procedures if using E-COA. Applications for any sort of immigration benefit are required to enter the receipt number for each pending benefit request in the USCIS online address change form to ensure said benefits are correctly applied.
Those who fail to comply with the address change policy may have their ability to remain and/or re-enter the United States affected as a result. Noncompliance may also be criminally prosecuted as a misdemeanor, resulting in a fine not to exceed $200 and/or a period of imprisonment no longer than thirty days. Applicants are also highly encouraged to retain a record of their request and other important documents in case the government accuses them of failing to comply.
