Hundreds of undocumented individuals have been arrested and removed. Per U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 538 arrests have been made with 373 undocumented migrants detained. Military aircrafts have been used to remove hundreds of undocumented migrants. ICE states these people have been identified as criminals including those convicted of sex crimes against minors, members of a foreign gang, and suspected terrorists. This is seemingly the start to the migrant detention program promised by President Trump.

Two flights were held overnight. The flights to Guatemala included 81 deportees, per U.S. officials. Other military flights removed additional hundreds of undocumented individuals. President Trump’s promise to carry out mass removal program is underway, although Tom Homan, Mr. Trump’s appointee as border czar, stated these arrests and removals are routine operations. A total of 11 million undocumented immigrants are living in the United States. Many of those have been in the country for several years.

Arrests have been made in Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington D.C. In New York, the Attorney General stated the Trump administration can’t force local law enforcement to assist with detention and removal of immigration. In New York City, schools received memos stated ICE agents are not allowed inside their facilities under any circumstance. The New York City Police Department received similar instructions, stated they should not assist with federal immigration enforcement. There are over 400,000 undocumented immigrants in New York.

In Newark, New Jersey, the Mayor stated ICE and federal immigration offices carried out a raid at a local establishment. The Mayor stated the officials detained undocumented individuals as well as citizens, without producing a warrant. The Mayor emphasized continued support for residents of his city.
