The Secretary of Homeland Security announced the extension of registration periods for initial Temporary Protection Status (TPS) in certain circumstances. Applicants under the TPS designation from Venezuela, Burma, and Syria have an extension from180 days to 18 months for initial applicants.

Specifically, the following dates apply for TPS Updates:

  • The 18-month registration period for initial applications under the TPS designation for Venezuela now runs through Sept. 9, 2022.
  • The 18-month registration period for initial applications under the redesignation of Syria for TPS now runs through Sept. 30, 2022.
  • The 18-month registration period for initial applications under the TPS designation for Burma (Myanmar) now runs through Nov. 25, 2022.

DHS also announced TPS updates for qualifying applicants that can file online. Nationals from Burma, Syria, Somalia, Venezuela, and Yemen or those without a nationality who have resided in any of those companies habitually can file Form I-821 online if first-time applicants. Eligible individuals can file their form individually or file it with Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

Online filing is an option solely for initial TPS applicants from Burma, Syria, Somalia, Venezuela, and Yemen, and qualifying residents without a nationality.

All other TPS applicants and current beneficiaries who are re-registering a TPS extension must file Form I-821 via paper.

  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • Nepal
  • Nicaragua
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • South Sudan
  • Syria
  • Venezuela
  • Yemen
