F-1 Student Visa

If you are planning to study in US, whether it’s Bachelors, Masters, Professional course or any other course, you will need an F1 Visa. F-1 is a non-immigrant visa issued to foreign students attending a full course of study in approved colleges, universities, seminaries, conservatories, academic high schools, private elementary schools, or enrolled for language training programs in the United States. All you need is to apply and get admitted to a school or university in the US. Once you are admitted, the institution will send you a Form I-20, which will used to start your Visa processing.

J-1 Student Visa

The J-1 visa category is used for educational and cultural exchange programs. This visa can be used by students, trainees involved in on-the-job training, teachers engaged in research and teaching, as well as international visitors who plan to travel, conduct research, provide consultancy, and share a specific form of knowledge. The J1 Visa program was designed to facilitate the sharing of human resources, knowledge, and skills in the fields of education, arts and sciences in the United States.

M-1 Student Visa

The M-1 Visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa for students who are interested in pursuing nonacademic or vocational studies. Language training doesn’t fall under this category however.

Do I Qualify?
In order to qualify for F-1 status, the alien must first apply to, and be accepted by; an academic institution in the United States authorized to enroll foreign students. The student must establish that he or she has the financial ability to pay for all costs associated with the education sought as well as meet the school’s academic requirements and show that he or she is sufficiently fluent in English.

Can I Bring My Family?
Yes, you are allowed to bring your spouse and children. F-2 visas are issued to the spouse of the F-1 and unmarried children under twenty-one years of age.

How Long Can I Stay on F-1 Student Visa?
When you enter the United States on a student visa, you will usually be admitted for the duration of your student status. That means you may stay as long as you are a full time student. You can stay even if the F-1 visa in your passport expires while you are in the US.
