A U.S. district court blocked the termination of the temporary protected status (TPS) designation for Ethiopia. This means TPS parole beneficiaries retain their detention and removal protections if the block stands. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) acknowledged the block, meaning that it won’t get overturned soon.
The district court judge initially blocked the Ethiopia TPS termination on January 30, 2026. The DHS and E-Verify publicly confirmed the stay on April 7, 2026. This means that Ethiopia’s status didn’t end on the originally designated termination date. Additionally, a court order declared initially expired Ethiopia TPS-based employment authorization documents (EADs) as valid. For individuals that filed EADs expiring on June 12, 2024 and December 12, 2025, their employment status is valid again.
