Federal courts issued blocks against multiple Temporary Protection Status (TPS) terminations. This means the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can’t implement these terminations unless they successfully appeal against the blocks in court. TPS beneficiaries from the affected countries will retain their status until further notice.
Block Details
The DHS announced TPS terminations for the following four countries:
- South Sudan.
- Originally scheduled for January 5, 2026.
- Syria.
- Originally scheduled for November 21, 2025.
- Ethiopia.
- Originally scheduled for February 12, 2026.
- Myanmar.
- Originally scheduled for January 26, 2026
Beneficiaries retain access to all TPS protections until further notice. USCIS published notices for E-Verify users from each country on how to proceed. Finally, certain employment verification documents (EADs) automatically extend beyond the originally scheduled termination dates. This means they’re still valid until litigation surrounding the termination blocks resolves.
